That part was good, however, I thought the sausage itself was a little over smoked. Sausage - I tried their spicy variety of sausage and it is spicy. I ordered my usual, ribs, brisket, and sausage so here's how they fared. We all got there just after 11 AM and were ready for some BBQ. I visited Stiles Switch last November while visiting family in Austin. I discovered this place while reading last May's Texas Monthly's BBQ edition so I had to give it a try. They are located in the same parking lot as Hooters set back off Preston Rd just a bit. So if you are in the Frisco area and want some great "Q" go to 3 Stacks, you wont be dissapointed. Brisket was fork-tender with good bark, well developed smoke-ring, and perfectly rendered fat. Don't miss the brisket, it ranks up there with Lockhart Smokehouse, Pecan Lodge, and Hutchins. They do make their own sauce and you can buy a bottle of it if you like but I'm a purist so I really don't do sauce and their meat can stand on it's own as it should.Saving the best for last, the brisket, a true Texas barbecue art-form. All of the sides were good but again it's about the meat. However, over all the ends were good and you should try them. The bark in some places was a bit thick and maybe the "point" was a bit over chard when it was thrown back in the pit. The burnt ends were like candy with good bark. The Holy Trinity (brisket is hiding under the ribs) Moist cut brisket, the only way to order it in my opinion The ribs were very flavorful with good smoke and the meat was tender to the bite and did not fall off the bone. Next, the ribs you can order glazed or rubbed, I ordered the rubbed but I think I got the glazed. This was the weakest part of the barbecue that I ordered but it would still pass just fine in many of the barbecue chains one would find in DFW (Sonny's, Dickey's, Spring Creek). I ordered the jalapeno cheese sausage and although the flavor was good the texture and casing seemed to be of the commercial variety so I don't think it is made on-site. On to the food, let's start with the sausage. Upon ordering the brisket I was asked lean or moist so with that attention to detail my apprehension started to be put at ease. And by the way the service was really good. Food came out on real plate ware and the presentation was very nice, what you would expect from a full-service operation. I also ordered some burnt ends as well with sides of potato salad, beans, and cheesy corn-bake. I ordered my usual sampling of barbecue, ribs, sausage, and brisket. I decided to cozy up to the bar and place my order. However, I was pleasantly surprised with the "Q". The "finish-out" is very nice and they have a full bar with multiple beer taps, and flat screen TVs throughout the establishment. I'm pretty use to the typical BBQ joint with your line service that you would find in most barbecue destinations. This joint being a full-service restaurant made me have my doubts about the barbecue. Meanwhile, his best buddy, Avery Shoaf, was having trouble running his own restoration company because of complaints from the locals. Ultimately, he decided to sell his collection at auction. Hall was running out of time and money as a result of impending forest fires in the area and new permission restrictions that might’ve forced him to close his business. In Season 4 of Rust Valley Restorers, Mike Hall had to make the hardest choice of his life: selling his 500-car collection and all the vehicles he hadn't managed to save. Netflix subscribers would have to wait longer because, as of today, Season 4 is also not available on Netflix. His social media accounts, including Facebook and Instagram, show that Hall has no intention of wrapping things up with Rust Valley. Mike Hall is very much invested in Rust Bro's Restoration. But he ended up keeping 52 cars from the lot to himself. Avery and Connor couldn't bear Hall parting ways with his loved collection and so made it easy for him by giving Mike a choice of 10 cars that he would want to keep. The last episode of Season 4 shows us Hall finally letting go of his beloved collection. Hall was stuck between keeping his beloved classic car collection and making money to keep Rust Valley Restorers going. But it was, in fact, quite the opposite of the rumors. Many even speculated that this move by Hall was an indication of Rust Valley Restorers and Rust Bros Restorations. Read our full Team Xtreem ARGB DDR4-3600 C14 review. Throw in the modules' appealing visual design and Team has a winner of a kit that deserves your consideration, particularly for older-gen AMD users. Its DDR4-3600 speed and 14-15-15 timings offer a great blend of decent speed and low latency, without the steep price often associated with top-tier memory kits. If you want to eke out all your CPU has to offer and ensure your system looks fresh in the process, the Team Xtreem ARGB kit is a great option. Team doesn’t have its own RGB control app, but the kit can be controlled simply using various motherboard manufacturers’ software suites. Each DIMM has a covering that diffuses the lighting across most of the module and the result is a subtle and understated look. And while that doesn't sound great on paper, it's surprisingly smart in the flesh. DIMM features diffused RGB lighting that creates a glow-in-the-dark effect. If you're resolutely DDR4, these RAM sticks are the way to go for maximising performance. Both Intel and AMD's latest CPUs support DDR5. This next-gen memory won't be much help if you've already bought a CPU and motherboard with only DDR4 support, but consider DDR5 if you're looking to build a high-end machine from scratch. Though there is another path to consider: DDR5 memory. If you’re going to drop $1,000+ on a graphics card, why not splash an extra $50 or so on some quality RAM to minimize any potential bottlenecks? We think it’s a no-brainer, especially as this kit isn't that expensive. That’s not to say a kit like this is a waste of money. High-performance memory is really only desirable when paired with a similarly high-spec system. You will see the benefits if you want to extract every last frame with a high refresh rate monitor. So, how does it perform? As is always the case with high-performance memory, the benefits are application-specific. When compared to a common DDR4-3200 kit you do get the odd bump, though any benefit is hidden when you move to higher resolutions and graphical details. A kit such as the Team Xtreem is pretty much optimal. That's great news for anyone eyeing up AMD's Ryzen 5000-series CPUs, which favor a memory clock around the 3,600MHz mark-thus ensuring the Infinity Fabric clock is kept at a 1:1 ratio with your memory and your chip ticking over happily with minimal latency penalties. We think it’s a no-brainer, especially as this kit isn't that expensive. You could even argue that 3,600MHz is the baseline for Ryzen 5000 and Intel 12th Gen systems, for decent performance without any significant price premium, with 4,000MHz and above the new high-end. Just a couple of years ago, a decent DDR4-3200 kit was regarded as high-end, but as time ticks on, 3,200MHz is now the baseline for a decent gaming system. Less if you're lucky.ĭDR4 memory really is maturing nicely into old age. However, a DRAM price crash and an increasing process maturity in DDR4 production mean kits such as this can often be had for around $100. Not all that long ago, a kit as well-rounded on both price and performance would've been a distant dream. Want to optimize your PC and get the most out of your RAM once you've got it? Our handy RAM speed for gaming deep-dive should be the first thing you read. Look out for CL16/CL18 or better, as these kits offer the responsiveness we want for gaming. We've tested a bunch of DDR4 RAM kits and picked out the best ones for gaming considering all the above factors, which you can find below. When it comes to CAS latency, lower is better. The other important stat to consider is CAS latency. This should give your CPU enough bandwidth cushion to handle gaming and work-related tasks. When it comes to speed, you want to look for DDR4 RAM that runs around 3,600MHz/3,200MHz for modern CPUs. You will also want to prioritise dual-channel kits (kits with two sticks of RAM) to ensure you're getting the most out of your system. Over 32GB is considered overkill because most games won't make any use of it, but if you're big on editing or work with massive files, 32GB can be a worthy investment. You can get 16GB for relatively cheap, and it's a good investment over 8GB of the stuff. It's a good time to pick up any DDR4 kit, actually. It runs with a super low latency and is available for a great price nowadays. If you're looking to upgrade an older system, however, you should check out the best DDR4 RAM in our estimations, TeamGroup's Xtreem ARGB DDR4-3600 16GB kit. We have tested and chosen the best DDR5 RAM if you're looking to build a new PC with one of AMD's or Intel's latest processors. The answer is enough to stop it achieving top marks in a much more populated genre than the one WipEout originally entered, but not enough to stop it winning us over. So really it comes down to how much it bothers us that this is "just" a better version of WipEout Pure. A bigger problem is that it hasn't taken WipEout in any boldly new or interesting directions. The repetition of track usage ought to be annoying, but it didn't upset me because the more you play them the better you get at them, and the better you are at WipEout the more exhilarating it is. But that doesn't happen very often, and that's about it. So what's the point of trying out the others? It's also a bit of a pain when you fly off the unguarded track bits and it respawns you facing the same edge at high speed. One odd thing is the new "loyalty" system for ships: basically, if you use the same team for ages, you get loyalty points, which unlock bonuses. There's very little wrong with it, really. They've even dumped the instruction manual there in text form, which is handier than making you go on the Internet to read it or carrying a book around. "Race Box" lets you create your own custom tournaments and races (and grids), and you can also view all your stats, customise soundtracks, and visit the website to download content directly. Alright, another new one.Įven without the online and multiplayer elements, Pulse is still slicker than Gordon Gecko, and with more share options. Mag-Strips will give you a new appreciation of bumps. As with Pure, the plan is to support Pulse with downloadable content. Local wireless play is still there too, supporting up to eight players, and even includes an option to play a kind of LAN game where you all connect to a router rather than a single player, the upshot of which is smoother gameplay. This now includes online gameplay, although we've been unable to get this working on our (otherwise complete) review code. Graphically it shames just about every other PSP developer and the entire PS2 back catalogue, with room left for custom skins that you can design yourself on the official website and then import into races, including multiplayer. Key to that is the consistent frame-rate, and the two and a half years since Pure have also taught Sony a few new tricks elsewhere in the PSP's circuitry, allowing for much more detailed tracks and ships, neat translucent surfaces and bigger explosions. Graphically, Dan Whitehead has already drawn attention to the way the visuals pull your eyes into the screen. Fortunately, as with Pure, you can heal your ship by choosing to absorb a power-up rather than deploying it - it worked before, and it works now. Mag-Strips haven't ruled out jumps either, with plenty around, including a very cruel one that bounces you over the start/finish line and into a sharp left-hander. In a world of seemingly increasing turbulence, Nite Owl provides a respite of hand-crafted, classic comfort food that delightfully defies the ravages of time. One change since the 1940s: as in most places, Nite Owl’s banana split is more of a parfait, with the apparent disappearance of the boat-styled dishes in which the treat was traditionally served. The thickly breaded onion rings on offer are hearty finger food. Even when topped with the works (the mayo, ketchup, mustard and onions is a nigh ambrosial combination) makes for a relatively manageable sandwich requiring little awkwardness of grip. The double jumbo hamburger fits two chunky, half-pound patties between a pillowy bun. Just as Nite Owl’s signage and decor point to the bustle of an expanding city amid post-World War II bustle, its grilled, fried and chilled fare has remained classically American. This means that it has 1280 pixels in a row and 720 pixels in a column. 720p (HD) Resolutionħ20p has a resolution of 1280×720. Otherwise, your screen will seem distorted. Make sure that your screen size is at least 32″ and that you are viewing the screen from a distance of at least 5 meters. If you want to buy a TV only for watching news channels etc. The standard channels that we see on TV support this type of resolution. This means that it has 720 pixels horizontally and 480 pixels vertically. 480p video is suitable for laptops, desktop monitors, and small format displays.Ĥ80p has a resolution of 720×480. It is composed of 480 lines stacked one on top of another. Different Screen Resolutions 480p (SD) ResolutionĤ80p video resolution, also known as standard definition (SD), has 480 vertical progressive pixels and 640 horizontal progressive pixels (4:3 aspect ratio). We understand that the naming convention of different resolutions can be confusing, which is why the table below gives a summary of the different resolutions and their naming conventions: Actual Resolution Resolution Conventional Name Name with Respect to Quality 720×480 480p SD 1280×720 720p HD 1920×1080 1080p Full HD (FHD) 2560×1440 1440p Quad HD (QHD), WQHD 3840×2160 2160p Ultra HD (UHD), 4K 7680×4320 4320p 8K UHD, 8K Resolution naming conventionĮach of these resolutions is discussed in detail below. The same applies to 8K, for which the actual resolution is 7680×4320. However, unlike other naming conventions that name the resolution based on the verticle number of pixels, the “K” is used with the horizontal number of pixels.įor example, if a resolution is 3840×2160, then instead of calling it “2160p,” they decided to name it 4K since the number of horizontal pixels is near to (and not exactly) 4000. As we mentioned earlier, 4K essentially means 4000 pixels. The screen resolutions ending with “K” is an alternate method to name certain resolutions. Therefore, the screen resolution naming changed from 1080i to 1080p. Instead of painting the rows as odd first and then even ones, all pixels were refreshed in a sequence. When the technology changed for display devices, the interlacing technology was also changed to progressive scanning. However, if you looked closely, you could identify the slight blurriness because of the interlacing. The CRT painted the pixels so fast that the transition was invisible to the naked eye. This meant that the odd-numbered rows were painted first, and then followed by all the even-numbered rows. The pixels on older display devices were painted horizontally back in the day and were interlaced. Screen resolutions are stated with an “i” on older monitors and screens that had Cathode-Ray Tube (CRT) technology. We will get back to this later in this section. However, there aren’t exactly 4000 pixels when talking about 4K resolution. The “p” in the resolution number stands for “ Progressive” and the “i” in the resolution number stands for “ Interlaced.” The “K” just symbolizes the multiple of thousand (1000). Most of us have only come across resolutions suffixed with either “p” or “K.” But what do these actually mean? Screen resolution comparison What Do “p”, “i”, and “K” Mean in Resolution Note that the “p” at the end also means something. For example, a resolution of “1920 x 1080” is known as 1080p. That said, it has now become a standard of naming a resolution by using the number of its verticle pixels. Multiplying the 2 numbers gives us the total number of pixels on the screen. This example states that the number of horizontal pixels in a single row is 1920, and the number of pixels in a single column is 1080. Normally, we represent resolution using two numbers the number of pixels displayed horizontally and the number of pixels displayed vertically (1920 x 1080). If your image has more pixels it would be easy for you to see the details of an image even if you zoom in a lot. This feature is denoted by Pixels Per Inch (PPI). Just make sure that the dare doesn’t seem to be the easier option than trying to get the answer right. If you’re up for more of a challenge, you could try a study-themed truth or dare, in which your friends ask you suitably tricky questions for the ‘truth’, and if you can’t answer – or get the answer wrong – you have to do a dare. Quizzes and treasure hunts are one way to go (for instance, where you get the next clue once you’ve figured out the answer to an exam question). “Invent a game and play it with your friends” is a recipe for time-wasting much more than that kind of activity on your own, so be sure to keep it simple. Your friends can be your greatest distraction, but they can also be your greatest study supportĪll the same, if you can make it work (perhaps if there’s one very strict friend in the group who keeps you all on track), turning studying into a game with friends might just be the best way to combine studying with fun for the maximum amount of both. Or you can end up having so much fun that not much studying actually happens. It can be motivating and helpful, as you share ideas that you might not have thought of individually. Studying with friends is a bit of a minefield. The process of coming up with a game might take longer than playing the game itself, but so long as you’re engaging with your subject and going over what you need to learn as you do it, it’ll still be valuable. The sort of game you choose will depend on your interests and your subject – history lends itself better to creating a sprawling 4-hour board game than, say, statistics, where you might instead use the principles you’ve learned on real-world events, such as sports. Have you ever spent time trying to get full marks on Sporcle when the work you’re supposed to be doing languishes unattended? Beware – you might end up writing an essay that reads, “The importance of this soliloquy in Hamlet is that it shows how Ophelia has gone from the other side, I must have called a thousand times…” Even if you’re not conscious of being distracted by your choice of music, skipping a song that’s annoying you or spending ages trying to find the right playlist could cut into your study time more than you realise. Before you just go for your favourite songs, it’s probably worth considering whether you are one of those people. Some people have the gift of being able to concentrate even while listening to songs with tricky and compelling lyrics some can even write an essay while singing along. This is a classic study tip for a reason – everything is more fun when it’s set to music you love. Here are our top tips for finding ways to have fun while studying – whatever the subject may be. One day you might come to like the subjects you loathe at the moment, but it’s not likely to happen when you’re cramming them ahead of exams. When you’re still studying subjects that you’re indifferent to, and some that you long never to have to study again, enjoying yourself has to be in spite of the subject, not because of it. So here’s the challenge – how can you make studying not only tolerable, but actively fun? This is a skill many students only learn when they go to university and begin to study a subject they actively love. You can do everything right: buying yourself treats, planning your time carefully, making sure your room is well-ventilated and your chair properly adjusted for your back, and still feel like you’re counting down the days until the end of this study period, or until you leave school, or – quite possibly – until you retire. |
